Help needed to save 2nd Lt Carol Ann Drazba Memorial!

Dear friends,

An intense effort is underway to help to salvage & erect the monument to the first American female casualty of the Vietnam War, Carol Ann Drazba of Dunmore, Pa. As some of you might remember, half of the funds have already been raised by the Friends of the Forgotten, a Veterans support group here in Lackawanna County. The remainder of the funds were pledged to be covered by a benefactor from California and with his acknowgement & encouragement; the statue is now near completion & is scheduled to be dedicated on October 8th @ 12pm. We have been invited to Washington DC & have invited all of the Dignitaries who are very interested in attending. The Everheart Museum in Scranton is also bringing the “Traveling Wall” to the park on the same date so we are planning the event to include a program at the “Wall” as well. This will be a fitting tribute to a very Historic Figure! Due to unforeseen circumstances, our benefactor has had to withdraw his offer at this time. We, the Friends of Forgotten are committed and know the public is as well! We are asking the public to help us complete this memorial on time. Engraved Bricks or Pavers are available @ $100 each & will honor & line the pathway to the monument to be placed in front of St Josephs Center on South Blakely St Dunmore, Pa. You can also dedicate a brick or one of two Granite benches to a loved one who served from another War or Era. Together we can secure our future generations will know and come to appreciate the sacrifice of this brave Nurse, Woman & Veteran who gave her last measure of devotion for our Freedom! Pavers can be purchased from our web site- or are available at St Josephs Center, Dunmore Borough Bldg or any member of Friends of the Forgotten. Our Event to fund the memorial will be held at North American Warhorse on August 14, 2011 9-3pm; the public is invited. This is a family event! Together we can overcome this hurdle! Please help to honor our Brave!

  1. Tim Murray Says:

In early 1971 through 1972, I had the honor of serving next to Air Force nurses, doctors and other medics of the 22nd ASF (Aeromedical Staging Flight), 366th Tactical Fighter Wing on Da Nang AFB. And also, on occasion, with Army nurses of the 95th EVAC hospital near China Beach. The 22nd ASF treated casualties from all over I Corps including soldiers, Marines, Airmen, Navy personnel, South Korean marines (ROKs), many wounded civilians and occasional injured VC. There were casualties on the air base itself from frequent rocket attacks.

The nurses served in South Vietnam voluntarily with great courage, dedication, valor and were loved by their patients and fellow medical personnel. The field Army nurses sacrificed the most, by far and should be forever remembered and honored. We remember, honor and hold close to our hearts each and every Vietnam Veteran.

  2. Thank You Sgt Murray
Your sentiments are echoed by many Veterans who have been cared for & are alive today because of these heroic Nurses. This is why it is imperative that this heroic figure, Carol Ann Drazba RN, be forever remembered & honored. Future generations will come to know that their lives very well may have come to be because of the care rendered to their parent or grandparent by a Nurse on the battlefield. Their Courage will never be Forgotten!
